PLACE NAMES

La Chapelle-Saint-Luc

La Chapelle-Saint-Luc is a commune in the Aube department in north-central France, right next to Troyes.

The village is cited in 1147 for tithes due to the Abbey of Saint-Loup but also in a bubble of 1164: nonas de Capella sancti Luce. The fief belonged to the Count of Champagne, came under Saint-Sépulcre, there was a county then royal town hall. Among the particular lords we must mention the Foulx family from the 14th century to the 16th century, then the family of Nicolas Paillot, mayor of Troyes from 1597 and by marriage to the Lefvres. Marie Lefvre married Pierre-François de Mesgrigny in 1730. The two Quinot children were the last lords in Chapelle-Saint-Luc. The property of the community included five pieces of land representing twelve arpents.

In 1789, Villy came under the stewardship and generality of Châlons, the election and the bailiwick of Troyes and the Royal Town Hall of Preize.

A fortified house is mentioned in 1399, in 144214, it is described in 177915: "clod and seigniorial place of the said land, on which are built the buildings consisting of a large main building, built of stone; stables, stables, barn, dovecote on foot, with a courtyard and the whole enclosed by ditches". There remains a cartouche of the arms of the Foulx family which is kept in the museum of Troyes. It was destroyed in 1842.

Places and monuments include:
  • The Pierre-Pitois park (formerly "Fouchy ponds park", renamed "Pierre-Pitois park" on 10/18/15): place for walking with playgrounds, picnic areas and animal park. You can see a floral pavilion dedicated to exotic varieties (orchids, ficus, banana trees).
  • Parc des Près de Lyon: promenade, fitness trail, minigolf
  • The museum of the old Champagne maltings: it relates the history of the city, a village that became a city with industrialization.
  • The Saint-Luc church: of Gothic architecture, located in the old town, it was built in two stages: the apse, the double transept and the eastern bay date from 1531, the bay and the western facade from 1579.
