Lavardens is a commune in the Gers department in southwestern France.
Lavardens Chateau is massive structure thst dates from 1620 onwards, but is based around an earlier castle from the 13th century which was dismantled in 1496 by Charles VIII following a siege.
The old castle was destroyed during the Wars of Religion. The lower part, dating from the 13th century, serves as the foundation for the new castle, rebuilt in 1620. The ground floor has two large barrel-vaulted rooms and a staircase with straight ramps. At the level of the second mezzanine, appear the first steps of an exterior staircase carved into the rock. On the upper level, the rooms are vaulted like a cloister arch. The corner towers have been removed.
