Le Pouliguen is a commune in the Loire-Atlantique department in western France.

Le Pouliguen comes from the Breton name "ar Poulligwenn" or "ar Poulgwenn". We find today a poetic translation: "la, petite baie blanche" (the small white bay).

The coat of arms of Pouliguen was adopted by the City Council on September 20th, 1952. Its slogan " DUC IN ALTUM " means: " go to the wide "

The rocky coast is a protected site, its remarkable heritage (natural housing environments, flora, birds) was recognized by European interest by the classification in site" Natura 2000" in 2008.

Since 2010, the municipality of Pouliguen set up a management academy of spaces situated by the part and by other one of the littoral path.

Since 2005, the towns of the Peninsula of Guérande are certified " France Station Nautique ". This station has about forty nautical establishments proposing initiations, courses, internships and other services. Among all these schools, 8 are certified " Ecole Française de Voile " : reference structures in term of learning the sail, among which the CNBPP, the center of sail in Le Pouliguen.

In november 2011, The Bay of le Pouliguen - La Baule - Pornichet joined the club of the most beautiful Bays in The world!
