Ambert is a commune in the Puy-de-Dôme department in Auvergne in central France.
It is the seat of the canton of Ambert and the arrondissement of Ambert. It is a sub-prefecture of the department. The arrondissement consists of eight cantons.
Ambert lies on the Dore River, a tributary of the Allier River.
