Montgeron

Montgeron is a commune in the southeastern suburbs of Paris, France. It is northeast part of the Department of Essonne. It is located 18.5 km (11.5 mi) from the center of Paris.

At 2 p.m. on Floreal 8 an IV (27 April 1796) four men ate a meal in the Hotel de la Chasse (no longer open, though the building survives). They went on from there to rob the Lyons Mail, murdering two people in the process and stealing some £3,000 of coins, assignats and other valuables. The case is famous in France, and in England was the subject of a successful play starring Henry Irving.

The café Au Reveil Matin at 22 Avenue Jean Jaurès was the departure point of the first Tour de France in 1903. Montgeron was also the starting point of the 21st (and last) stage of the 2017 Tour de France.
