Les Cabannes is a commune in the Ariège department in southwestern France.
Historically and culturally, the town is part of the country of Sabarthès, structured by the upper valley of the Ariège upstream of the country of Foix with Tarascon-sur-Ariège as the main town.
Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Ariège and the Aston. The town has a remarkable natural heritage: a Natura 2000 site and four natural areas of ecological, faunal and floristic interest.
Les Cabannes is a rural commune with 337 inhabitants in 2019, after having experienced a population peak of 1,569 inhabitants in 1793.
