Damvix

Damvix is a commune in the Vendée department in the Pays de la Loire region in western France.

Situated in the south of the Vendée on the Marais Poitevin where the adjoining departments of Deux Sèvres and the Charente Maritime all meet, Damvix is on the river Sèvre Niortaise in the beautiful Green Venice region of the Marais Poitevin. This attractive village attracts thousands of visitors annually who come to discover the many secrets and pleasures to be found here, whether it is a quiet walk along the many well marked trails, a trip in one of the various forms of boats that can be hired from the waterfront, fishing or just sitting and taking in the delights before them. With such a picturesque landscape you will see why artists often are attracted here.

There are several restaurants in the village and you can even take a leisurely dinner cruise along the river Sèvre Niortaise in a special floating restaurant that leaves from just under the bridge. It is essential to book as this is a very popular attraction.

l'Abeille de Damvix is situated in the heart of Damvix at 9, Impasse de la Bergerie, Benedict and Marie-Claire Gatineau run not only a business selling everything connected with bees, but also houses a permanent exhibition dedicated to the lives of bees. The exhibition has an ancient bee hive made of clay and cow dung, a working hive where you can observe the bees at work through a glass beehive, with the swarm having direct access to the outside and a Library, The honey laboratory sees all of the phases of honey production including the retrieval, filtering, maturation and packaging of honey, do not miss “the craft of making gingerbread”, and video room where you can watch a presentation on the life of Bees. This exhibition (upstairs), will enable you to discover an insect wonder, the Bee. Open throughout the year.
