Nallihan is named after a caravanserai on the ancient Silk Road to the Orient next to the river Nalli. There has been a settlement here for thousands of years.

Today the town is known for its needlework and local cuisine including stuffed vine-leaves, pilav and pastries. The countryside is used for growing rice and grapes.

Nallihan is one of many towns that claims to be the burial place of Taptuk Emre, who was the hodja (teacher in Islamic studies) of the folk-poet and dervish Yunus Emre. Nallihan Bird Sanctuary in Davutoglan Neighborhood draws attention as a wetland formed between marly hills at the junction with Aladag Stream, to the north of Sariyar Dam.

In the region, which is home to many bird species such as bee-eater, black stork, mallard, gray heron, blackhead, little vulture, little bittern, stork, kestrel, red hawk, hawk, snapper, angut and cormorant, the number of birds increased with the arrival of spring.

Home to approximately 200 bird species, Nallihan Bird Sanctuary attracts great attention from visitors.

The Kiz Tepesi Natural Monument, which resembles an open-air museum with its colorful hills consisting of limestone, gypsum, marl and clay soil, also enriches the tourism potential of the region.

Located in front of the Kiz Tepe Natural Monument, the "bird paradise" offers an ideal environment for nature photography and bird watchers with its geological features as well as the bird communities it hosts in all seasons.

There are several nature reserves in the district, including a bird sanctuary and an area intended for wild sheep colonization.

Other places of interest include:
  • Nallihan Kus Cenneti - Sariyar reservoir is teeming with bird-life. It is a natural habitat for several endangered bird species in Turkey.
  • Kocahan - Ottoman vizier Nasuh Pasha stopped by this place in 1599 and made it built. It is in a rectangular shape and has cafes and shops in its 46 rooms.
  • Ilica/Uyuzsuyu waterfall - The waterfall that reside in the road to Göynük, is the only waterfall in the borders of Turkey's capital, Ankara. It got its name "Uyuzsuyu" because there is a belief that its water cures skin diseases.
