Burzet


Burzet is a commune in the Ardèche department in southern France. A small village, at 540 meters altitude, Burzet takes place in the Bourges valley, in the heart of a circus of volcanic mountains. It is located about fifty kilometers from Privas and about twenty kilometers from Aubenas, in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of the Monts d'Ardèche.

Long the third city of Ardèche in terms of inhabitants, the municipality of Burzet was once a rich commercial city famous for its cattle fair and its many shops. Prosperous, it has now turned to tourism, obtaining in particular the Station Verte label because of the richness of its natural heritage.

Full of charm, this city in the south of France also seduces with its tourist sites and monuments of great interest.

Listed as a historic monument, the church of St. Andrew was built in the course of the fifteenth century. Entirely in granite stone of the country, it presents in its exterior a very beautiful Romanesque style and a Gothic interior. One can admire a Baroque altarpiece of the early nineteenth century, a white marble altar and many statues of St. Augustine, St. Paul, St. Francis de Salles or St. Benezet.

Unique in Europe, the Calvary of Burzet presents thirty-two stations of the thirteenth century. A costumed reconstruction of the Passion of the Christ is proposed every Holy Friday with sixty extras.

While strolling in the village, you will be able to discover the chapel Saint-Bénézet of the XVIIIe century, the statue of Notre-Dame-of-All-Graces of the second half of the XIXe century on the vestiges of the dungeon of XIIe, the tower of l Clock on the site of the old medieval castle or the castle of Gallimard. Former military fortress built in the thirteenth century, it later became a state house.

Let yourself be seduced by the medieval quarter with its cobbled streets, old houses, old stalls of craftsmen or the remains of the castle.

But Burzet is also a rich natural heritage to discover the hiking time in the region. It is thus possible to discover the rock of Autureyre, the scale of the Queen with its 215 steps leading to a magnificent point of view on the valley of the Vernède, the volcano of the Cup of Jaujac, the volcano of Gravenne, the waterfall the Maw of Hell, the Bauzon juice, the Sainte-Marguerite with its chapel and its 360-degree viewpoint, the volcanic bomb, the basaltic flows of the Armanier, the Souilhol volcano, the milling faysses Chirols, the Maar Doris on the thermal site of Neyrac, the mofette of carbon dioxide, the botanical trail, the Pourcheyrolles waterfall which sprang from a lava flow of thirty-two meters or the source of sparkling mineral water of Peyralade.

Various sports and leisure activities are also available on site such as hiking, climbing, fishing, donkey rides, biking or petanque.
