Neussargues-Moissac is situated in the Cantal department and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
The village, located at the beginning of a hillside, flourishes in an amphitheatre and enjoys a pleasant perspective over the meadows. Its church is dedicated to Saint Stephen. The old keep, dependent on the bishop, was taken by bands of English mercenaries in 1357 and seriously damaged in 1382. The castle that replaced it dates from the XVe century. It consists of a main building flanked by four towers, formerly crenellated, and connected to each other by a square bastion.
Chavagnac lordship was held by the family of Dienne, vassal of the bishop for the land. After the battle of Poitiers, British troops invaded the Auvergne. The castle was taken and plundered by the English in 1357 and razed in 1360. The castle was rebuilt in the fifteenth century and restored in 1646 and the nineteenth century. The building is registered as historical monuments in 1991.
