Berzé-le-Châtel

Berzé-le-Châtel (Old French: Barzil) is a commune in the Saône-et-Loire department in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in eastern France.

The trouvère Hugues IV de Berzé was the ruler of Berzé-le-Châtel in the early 13th century.

It is said that the Berzé-le-Châtel's basement extends 1000 feet into the ground.

Jewel of Southern Burgundy, this imposing fortress dominating the Lamartinien valley is the unmissable place in the region. This fortified castle with its fourteen towers and its gatehouse retains in its three enclosures a set of medieval rooms and a Carolingian chapel.

Its terraces shelter several gardens (French garden, English garden and vegetable garden).

The fortress is delighted to resume its traditional organization of medieval festivals on the Ascension weekend. For four days, you can discover our craft market and attend the various shows: equestrian jousting of knights, presentation of medieval camps, educational workshops on life in the Middle Ages. Catering on site. You are expected in large numbers at the castle for this great weekend of family celebrations. Do not hesitate either to come dressed as at the time to compete in the daily election of the most beautiful visitor!

We are counting on your friendly presence to continue to bring our millennial history to life and celebrate the richness of our beautiful heritage.
