Mandagout is a commune in the Gard department in southern France.

In the mountains of southern Aigoual commune Mandagout is composed of many hamlets and a castle.

Located in a valley on a rock, is the site of a castle of the 13th century.

In the fourteenth century the Mandagot family made it one of the first feudal homes of the Cévennes. It played an important role in the time of the Avignon popes through several prelates given to the church. The most famous was William of Mandagot, made a cardinal in 1305, renowned for his science. He came close to being elected pope in 1316 after the death of Clement V.

In the XVII century, Daisy Mandagot, heiress to the castle sold it to his sister Violande. In 1672, Violande of Mandagot married Jean Albignac, barron Arre, and the castle remained in their descendants until the twentieth century.

April 16, 1792, the inhabited by Madame d'Albignac, sister in law of General Castle visited by locals who asked him the papers of his manorial rights and the furniture they went to burn instead of Beaulieu. The castle is now under the name of Albignac until it was sold in 1967 to Mr. Trautmann former race car driver. Since then, it has been completely restored and is used as a hotel.
