Montclus is a commune in the Gard department in southern France. In the heart of the Provençal Gard, in the Occitania region, nestles a commune classified among the most beautiful villages of France. Montclus takes place on the edge of the Ardèche, in the arrondissement of Nîmes. Set in a meander of the Cèze, this medieval village reveals all its charms to its visitors.

Already standing in the thirteenth century, the village of Montclus benefits from very ancient origins. Long linked to the history of the Abbey of Mons Serraus, founded in 1263, it was also under the protection of the Templars for a time.

Today, Montclus is popular with tourists for its narrow alleys, medieval houses and landscapes that blend harmoniously with lavender and vineyards. Difficult not to succumb to the charm of this small village which still seems to breathe in the era of the Middle Ages. Enjoying an exceptional cachet, it has recently been restored with great taste and talent.

Classified as Historical Monuments, the old castle of Montclus dates from the thirteenth century. All that remains today is the keep, which dominates the whole village and which brings a lot of charm to the whole.

The town has also been able to preserve, from this rich past, a room of the former troglodytic Benedictine monastery founded by the Templars.

Do not forget to discover the Mas du Grand Galès, an agricultural estate which is reached via a large alley of fruit trees, and which is listed in the Historic Monuments for its traditional architecture.

On the banks of the Cèze, you will enjoy a walk arranged to admire the whole, as well as the surrounding landscapes. Walks in the lavender and vineyards are also possible around the village.
