Le Rozier is a commune in the Lozère department in southern France.
The town lies at the junction of the Tarn and Jonte gorges.
"Campus Rosarium". The Benedictine priory was founded in 1075 by Bernard de Peyreleau, Raymond de Mostuéjouls and the Abbey of Aniane (Hérault). Its name reflects the strong reputation that resulted from the cultivation of roses. The Rocher de Capluc, a former fortified castle, open to many hikes, under the watchful eye of vultures, offers a magnificent view of the meeting of the Tarn and the Jonte. At the crossroads of 2 Grands Sites Occitanie, the village's location makes it easy to visit the Gorges du Tarn, the Gorges de la Jonte, the 3 Grands Causses and the Tarn valley leading to Millau.
Near the village, a multitude of outdoor sports within easy reach: climbing, via ferrata, canyoning, caving, canoeing, rafting, adventure course, bungee jumping, paragliding and of course hiking.
Ideal starting point for many hiking trails:
- Les Corniches du Méjean: duration 4 to 5 hours (difference in altitude around 900 m). Between the Tarn gorges and the Jonte gorges, a grandiose journey under the wings of the vultures: from the Jonte cliffs to the vertigo balcony, passing at the foot of the mythical Vases de Sèvre and China.
- The cornices of the Causse Noir and the Ermitage Saint-Michel: duration 4 to 5 hours (difference in altitude approximately 600 m). A steep but well-shaded ascent on the Causse Noir with the backdrop of the confluence of the Tarn and the Jonte. Walk along the impressive cliffs to the ruins of the Ermitage Saint-Michel.
- The troglodyte villages Eglazines and Saint-Marcellin: Duration from 2 hours (minimum round trip) to 5 hours for the entire loop (difference in altitude approximately 800 m). A spectacular route along the corniche of the Tarn gorges. An endearing circuit, in the footsteps of our ancestors. They lived here, with nature; they built these troglodyte villages as unusual as they are charming.
Other easier hikes are also possible, on the Causses Noir and Méjean, the Arcs Saint Pierre, the Roc des Hourtous, visit of the Cité de Pierre in Montpellier-le-Vieux...
For roaming enthusiasts, Le Rozier is an essential stopover point on all roads! GR6, variant of the Saint-Guilhem path and the new GR736 along the Tarn from the sources of the Tarn to Albi.
Do not miss: the stroll in the alleys of the neighboring village, Peyreleau, Petite Cité de Caractère, panoramic terrace at the foot of La Tour. Attention exceptional panorama!
If you prefer to bask in the sun, you will find beaches where you can spread your towel. There is no shortage of swimming spots, but be careful, you will most certainly be on private land. Enjoy the pebble beaches and crystal clear waters but respect the places, the parking areas and the environment.
By canoe, kayak, paddle or other craft, discover the Tarn gorges in an unprecedented way and access simple pleasures.
Tourist shuttles in July and August are set up to facilitate your trips in the gorges.
