Pont-de-Montvert-Sud-Mont-Lozère is a commune in the department of Lozère, southern France. The municipality was established on 1 January 2016 by merger of the former communes of Le Pont-de-Montvert, Fraissinet-de-Lozère and Saint-Maurice-de-Ventalon.
It is located in the heart of the Parc National des Cévennes. The inhabitants of Le Pont-de-Montvert are called Pontoises or Montvertipontains.
The charm of the granite houses and the natural pools formed by the Tarn make the village of Pont-de-Montvert the ideal place for a stopover and a stay. The village is at the crossroads of several hiking trails, and it is not uncommon to meet hikers accompanied by a donkey, cyclists and horse riders. This haven of peace is an excellent destination to recharge your batteries and enjoy nature.
The village is known to have been on July 24, 1702, following the collective assassination of Father Cheyla who had tortured Protestants for several years, the starting point of the Camisards war. One of the leaders of the revolt, the camisard Esprit Seguier, was condemned to be burned alive on the banks of the Tarn.
Everything seems very calm at the Pont de Montvert: pretty maintained streets, beautiful stone houses, majestic mountain. Come and discover who the fierce Abbot of Chayla and his terrible assassins were, find the dust of the herds and the cries of the merchants, immerse yourself in history thanks to the clues left in the buildings and the landscapes! I invite you on a journey back in time in which you will be the actors.
