The village of St André has a roman church and a roman museum. There are also local shops, bars, restaurants and a supermarket in the village. Close by are the historic ports of Port Vendre and Collioure, famous for the old fort, street artists, cafés, boutique shops and the Sunday market. Even closer is the port of Argèles Sur Mer where you can hire boats, go on boat trips, fishing trips and all manor of water sports. This region of France has superb sandy beaches.
The Pyrenees mountains begin just beyond the village and mountain walking, cycling, bird watching and the mountain pools are all available close by. The city of Perpignan is also close with its trendy shops, restaurants and bars and the castle. The Spanish border is only five miles away and just over the border is the Dali museum and his home. The area is a thriving centre of modern art with many museums and galleries. The area has a growing reputation for fine wine and there are many places to visit locally to sample the years vintage. Barcelona is less than a two hour drive away. Within two hours in the mountains is the famous yellow train and the walled city of Carcassonne.
The village is remembered more by travelers in the eighties who endured long traffic jams both here and at nearby St Génis-des-Fontaines.
