Liencres is a coastal town in Cantabria (Spain), belonging to the municipality of Piélagos. It is located on the coast 9 kilometers west of Santander, with an altitude of 72 meters above sea level.
It stands out for its beaches along the 8 kilometers of coastline: Pedruquíos, also known as El Madero, Somocueva, Cerrias, La Arnía, Portío, Valdearenas and Canallave. These last two beaches are integrated into the natural park of the Dunas de Liencres (dunes set by a maritime pine forest).
The Dunas de Liencres Natural Park is an area of notable geomorphological and landscape value that was declared a protected area in 1986. With an area of 195 hectares. On the mountain of La Picota in this town there are archaeological remains of interest such as the Pedraja castle or Hercules castle, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 2004, or an important set of defensive structures from the Spanish Civil War, declared an Asset of Interest Cultural in 2008. Next to La Picota is El Tolío; both peaks belong to the Sierra de Liencres.
