Blawith...nick-named 'Black Forest' is a parish situated at the head of the Crake Valley, and extends to the south western shores of Coniston water.
The village consists of little more than twelve houses situated alongside the road, together with several farmsteads in close proximity.
The church of St John the Baptist, built in 1883 to replace an earlier chapel which was in existence prior to 1577, is now closed. The ruins of the chapel can be found up the hill leading south out of the village, hidden behind trees, and with the tombstones overgrown with brambles.
The school now closed, and converted into a house, was rebuilt in 1859.
Many mediaeval cairns and enclosures hereabouts.
