The two Sawreys (Near and Far indicating their proximity to Hawkshead) are approximately half a mile apart, and about two miles from Hawkshead.
Basically they consist of a few large Victorian houses and farms. Hilltop House (run by the National Trust) is here where Beatrix Potter lived for a while.
Besides the road route the other way to get there is by ferry across Windermere from Bowness. The South Lakeland Tourism Partnership has, in conjunction with the National Park, recently invested in a new footpath from Sawrey to the ferry.
