The village of Field Broughton lies two miles to the north of Cartmel and about four miles to the south of Lake Windermere.
There will be found a lime kiln by Field Broughton church which was used until 1920 producing quick line.
Additionally there is an old lime kiln at Beckside.
Until 1796 all the land here was common land until it was divided and sold to a few wealthy people, thereby leaving many people very prosperous and others very poor. The one piece of common land remaining is the village pound, used for holding stray animals.
Back in 1731 a certain Miles Burn left £50 in his will towards building a chapel/schoolroom here. Today re-built, it can still be seen.
