In 1664 Kaber was the scene of the Kaber Rigg Plot...a rebellion against Charles II led by Captain Robert Atkinson, of Watergate Farm in Mallerstang. The rising failed and he was hung, drawn and quartered at Appleby.
Tragically, a messenger carrying his reprieve was delayed at Stainmore.
