Fiss, one of the three villages of the holiday area Serfaus - Fiss - Ladis, is characterised by its narrow alleys snaking in the centre. Once upon a time the village was mainly composed of West Tyrolean farms, but its structure changed in the course of time, above all after a devastating fire in 1972, as several touristic structures were built after that.
An old tradition which is still cultivated in Fiss is a Carnival custom called "Blochziehen". This custom is aimed at expelling the winter and it's taking place in every four years - the next time in 2018. For this occasion, a tree trunk of a pine tree, which is a symbol of fertility, is drawn decorated across the village of Fiss. Evil spirits try to hamper these activities by every means. By the way: this custom is exclusively reserved to men, an old tradition!
Both summer and winter, Fiss offers a wide variety of leisure time activities. One of the main attractions in summertime is the Summer Fun Park at the Möseralm pasture, offering "Skyswing", a huge seesaw, "Fisser Flieger", a kite-like aircraft, as well as "Fisser Flitzer", which is a summer toboggan run, and the Summer Snow World. Otherwise you can simply make a pleasant walk along one of the paths in the surroundings. In winter you can enjoy skiing in the skiing area Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis, offering considerable 214 km of ski slopes. Have fun!
Our recommendation: the Schönjoch mountain is not only a starting point for several treks, but also a starting point for paragliders and an exercising area for model aircraft flyers. A great place to be!
