Alkmonton is to be found at the end of a straight five-mile stretch of Roman road that is all up and down, with wide views reaching into Staffordshire.
Its church, with lancet windows and a bell-turret with a leaded spire, is of the mid 19th century, a neat and trim little place unusual in the neighbourhood for its outside walls of flint and stone. It has one old possession, a fine Norman font like part of a massive pillar. This is all that is left of an ancient chapel, and after being lost for more than three centuries was dug up on a farm.
Bentley Hall, to the west on the Cubley road, is a charming early 17th century brick house with a later 17th century wing.
Bentley Fields Open Farm is an unspoilt and traditional livestock farm stretching over 245 acres. Lots of different breeds of sheep, pigs and poultry.
