Littleover is now a favourite residential district, a dormitory for Derby, so to speak, but its church of many gables and its fine vicarage share a glorious distant prospect over the Trent Valley.
The church has a Norman doorway and a huge Norman font, its oldest possessions. There are 14th century windows in the chancel and the north arcade is of this time, but the north aisle was rebuilt in 1856 and the south aisle in 1908.
On the chancel wall is a coloured monument to Sir Richard Harpur and his wife - all are seen kneeling at a desk.
The Old Hall, built by Sir Richard’s father, a judge of Elizabeth I’s day who lived at Swarkestone, has been rebuilt and extended as a research centre for Rolls-Royce.
