Dove Holes is now bordered by huge limestone quarries, but it still has something like the shadow of an ancient past.
A little is left of what was once the great stone circle 260 yards round, one of the three most important prehistoric circles in Derbyshire, Known as the Bull Ring.
Its stones were broken up and used for building 200 years ago, and what is left to see is the ditch, with two entrances which were old before the Romans came, and an isolated mound near by.
