Some areas of Ockbrook peep over the Trent and Derwent Valleys into Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, some of it is in the hollow with the church. A Moravian settlement, one of the only three in England, was founded here in 1750, and its girls’ school still flourishes, using the chapel and other 18th century buildings.
With a magnificent beech for company, the church is both old and new. The small tower is of the 13th century and the spire is a century younger, the chancel and nave are of the 19th century.
Its treasures are a Norman font, 16th century window pictures of the Evangelists, and woodwork of about 1500 in the choir stalls and the chancel screen.
